I Almost Died Today

Today started off as a shitstorm in the form of Luna. I walked out to my car this morning and discovered the can of soda I had forgotten about wanted to make its presence known and exploded all over the inside of my car. While grumbling loudly, I found out I also had a flat tire. Luna just wanted to shit all over the place today. I quickly wiped out the inside and pumped up my tire so I could get on my way.

Work was slow as balls, except for one lunch rush. Steve, my boss, was feeling extra nice today so he bought Sam and I ice cream from the DQ down the street. I got decent tips for the three or four deliveries I took, so I was in a good mood despite the awful start to my day.

I'm driving home, it's a 22mile stretch so I have a while to go. About three miles down the road, my car swerves to the right. One tire is on the grass and I pull my car to the left to get back on the road. This causes everything to lock up on me and I spin. I'm going down the highway going a little over 60mph, and I'm spinning. Well, one spin but still. I ended up on the side of the road, with one tire in the gully. As soon as I stopped, I jumped out to inspect everything.

I was fine, no scrapes or bruises... yet. My car seemed fine to me, no flat tires, no visible damage. Two men stopped and came over to me along with the owner of the house I ended up in front of. They inspected my car as well and tried figuring out what happened. They said something about pressure somewhere or my tire rods but I wasn't paying much attention. They decided it was safe to start my car and got behind it to push me out of the gully. It only took about a minute and I was safe on the side of the road.

One was going to Fayetteville and the other Richlands, Beulaville is between both of those so the men decided I was going to drive in between them to make sure my car was fine and wouldn't lock up on me again. I pulled out and the trucks positioned themselves in front and behind my tiny car, the truck behind with hazards on. Luna seemed to be doing fine, so the truck in front of me continued on his way. I was actually driving the speed limit for once, I'm pretty sure that's the slowest I've ever driven home.

I'm home and fine, just shaking a little bit the way any near death experience would cause. Hopefully that will never happen again, I don't think I could handle it. I'm so glad tomorrow is my day off and I don't have to go near my car. After reflecting how everything that happened, I realize how much worse it could've been. I could have spun into someone's car, I could've flipped over, I could have drove into someone's house. I feel like I was given a second chance at life. It's as though someone is watching over me and decided I wasn't supposed to die today. I'm meant to live and do much more than I'm currently doing. I need to live my life instead of simply existing. Starting tomorrow, I plan to start taking care of myself the way I should. I want to become healthy, I want to seek  for true happiness within myself, I want to be everything I can be. Hopefully, this is the start of a much better Jess.

I know that feeling of losing control behind the wheel and it's absolutely terrifying. Glad you are okay! I think that sometimes the universe allows these things to happen so we can remember how lucky we are to be alive.

I had a similar experience three days ago,,, fell asleep behind the wheel. It was the fact that the car suddenly accelerated and caused me to wake up just in time to swerve from a sharp bend in the road. One second later it could have been a different story. Was I just lucky or have I been given a second chance? I don't know but I shall appreciate life more, I know that much.
